The Cause

Each year, thousands of acres of prime land, lush forests, and world-renowned biodiversity hotspots disappear from the world’s landscape. The Area de Conservacion Guanacaste (ACG) has a 25-year track record of reversing this trend. By purchasing land ranging from existing forest to cattle ranches, ACG has shown that we can re-grow tropical forest. ACG protects a 163,000-hectare (1,630 km2) area rich in biodiversity that includes tropical dry forest, rainforest, cloud forest and marine ecosystems.

We have an opportunity now to protect this land forever by supporting an exemplary system of conservation management. Learn how ACG builds science and community support while protecting nature through training local community members as combination “parataxonmist”/park guards. Eminent tropical ecologist Daniel Janzen is guest speaker for what promises to be a fascinating (and fun!) evening.
